Online Training for Different School Roles

Support staff across your school with training that reflects their day-to-day responsibilities. Explore courses covering fire safety, first aid awareness, food hygiene, allergies, data protection, the Prevent duty and electrical safety. Choose courses according to each person’s role and your setting’s policies and risk assessments.

Fire safety and allergy awareness for all staff

Fire Safety Awareness for Schools and Colleges helps staff recognise fire risks and understand what to do if a fire occurs. Allergy Awareness for Schools helps staff recognise signs of an allergic reaction, understand common allergy risks and respond to an emergency. Both courses support a shared understanding of how to protect pupils, colleagues and visitors.

Relevant legislation and guidance: In England and Wales, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005; in Scotland, the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 and Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006; in Northern Ireland, the Fire and Rescue Services (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 and Fire Safety Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2010. Schools should also follow the guidance on supporting pupils with medical conditions and allergies that applies in their nation.

For catering and allergy awareness

Level 1 and Level 2 Food Hygiene courses help staff understand safe food practices at a level suited to their duties. Food Allergen Awareness covers regulated food allergens, while Allergy Awareness for Schools focuses on recognising and responding to allergy risks in an education setting.

Relevant legislation and guidance: Food Safety Act 1990; food hygiene and allergen information rules applicable in your part of the UK; guidance on supporting pupils with medical conditions.

For staff who handle personal information

Data Protection and the GDPR for Schools uses education-based examples to explain how personal data should be handled. Advanced Data Protection and the GDPR explores organisational duties in more detail.

Relevant legislation: UK GDPR; Data Protection Act 2018.

For staff with safeguarding responsibilities

Prevent Duty training helps staff understand the duty, recognise indicators that a child may be vulnerable to radicalisation and know how to raise a concern.

Relevant legislation and guidance in England: Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015; Keeping Children Safe in Education 2026.

For caretakers and premises teams

Our PAT Testing and Electrical Safety course introduces the inspection and testing of portable electrical equipment. Manual Handling covers risks when lifting and moving loads, while Working at Height and Ladder Safety address tasks where falls are a risk. Legionella Awareness introduces risks associated with water systems, and Asbestos Awareness helps staff recognise where asbestos may be present and avoid disturbing it. Choose training alongside your school’s risk assessments and site procedures.

Relevant legislation and guidance: Electricity at Work Regulations 1989; Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992; Work at Height Regulations 2005; Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 and HSE legionella guidance (L8); Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.

Some requirements and guidance differ across the UK. Check the rules that apply to your nation and education setting when planning staff training.

Schools Training FAQs

Are your courses for schools accredited?

Our schools range includes CPD-certified, IIRSM-approved and RoSPA-assured courses. Approvals vary by course, so you can check the details on each course page before buying.

Can I buy, assign and track courses for a whole school team?

Yes. You can buy licences for multiple staff members, assign courses through your group manager account and monitor learners’ progress. Bulk discounts start at 10 licences, and unused standard course licences remain in your account until you need them.

Does the online First Aid in the Workplace course qualify someone as a first aider?

No. This course builds first aid awareness but does not qualify someone as a First Aider or Emergency First Aider. Your school’s first aid needs assessment should determine what training its first aiders require. An appointed person, who takes charge of first aid arrangements, has a different role and does not necessarily need a first aid qualification.

When do learners receive their certificates?

Learners can download and print their certificates as soon as they have completed the course and passed its assessment. The certificate records their successful completion and displays the approvals relevant to that course.

How often should school staff refresh their training?

There is no single refresher interval for every course. Review training when roles, risks, procedures or guidance change, and check each course’s recommended renewal date.

Safeguarding guidance differs: England and Northern Ireland call for staff updates at least annually, while Welsh guidance recommends refresher training within two years and no more than three years apart. In Scotland, follow the applicable national and local guidance. An annual update does not necessarily mean repeating a full course.
