Our Fire Safety England Regulations 2022 course explains the purpose of the Fire Safety Regulations (England) 2022 and their role in protecting people in domestic premises. The course will make you aware of the need for the regulations and the key duties placed on owners and managers of multi-occupied residential buildings.
New Fire Safety England Regulations 2022 were introduced in England to implement the specific recommendations of the Grenfell Inquiry. The regulations apply to all buildings in England that comprise two or more domestic premises. The regulations do not apply in Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. What does the Fire Safety England Regulations 2022 training cover?
The course covers the checks required for fire doors in communal areas and flat entrances. It explains the purpose and the principal components of a fire door and when fire door checks must be carried out. It explains who can carry out fire door inspections and what parts of a fire door you need to check. This includes checks required for self-closing fire doors. The course also covers what you should do if issues are found during the checks, as they’ll need to be in line with new fire door regulations introduced in 2022. The course has been updated to cover new fire safety guidance that came into effect in October 2023.

Who should take Fire Safety England Regulations 2022 training?
It should be taken by building owners, building managers, maintenance staff, security staff and contractors who manage or work in a building comprising two or more residential dwellings. This is because the course explains the regulations and the duties that they impose, including the inspection of fire doors in communal areas and flat entrances.

The course contains the following 6 topics:
1 – Background to the Regulations
The first topic explains why the regulations were introduced, how the regulations relate to the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and where the regulations apply. The topic then covers the role of the Responsible Person and the duty of employees and residents in the buildings where the regulations apply. It also explains the need to review the risk assessment in light of the regulations.
2 – Key requirements of the Regulations
The second topic explains the key requirements of the regulations. The topic covers the fire safety instructions that must be provided to residents in all multi-occupied residential buildings. It explains what is meant by the term ‘high-rise residential building’. It also covers the information that must be provided to the local fire and rescue service for high-rise buildings. Lastly, the topic identifies what wayfinding signage is required within a building.
3 – Fire door checks (communal areas)
The third topic covers the checks which are required for fire doors in communal areas. The topic explains the purpose and the principal components of a fire door. It describes when fire door checks in communal areas must be carried out, who can carry out the checks and how to check fire doors. It also includes fire door checks for self-closing doors and checks for riser doors. Finally, it explains what to do if issues are found during checks.
4 – Fire door checks (flat entrances)
The fourth topic covers the checks which are required for flat entrance fire doors. It explains when fire door checks on entrances to flats must be carried out, and who can carry out the checks. It also describes what is meant by ‘best endeavours’ to gain access and what to do if there are problems gaining access to check the doors. The topic covers how to check the doors and what to do if issues are found during checks. Lastly, it identifies the importance of keeping records of flat entrance checks, whether access was gained and the steps taken to gain access.
5 – Wayfinding signage
Topic 5 covers why wayfinding signage is important, where signs are required and the specification for signage.
6 – Information for residents
Topic 6 covers the fire safety information that must be given to residents and when the information should be issued. It also covers the specific information that should be given regarding flat entry fire doors.
7 – Information for local fire and rescue service
The final topic covers the fire safety information that must be shared with the local fire and rescue service, and how the information must be shared. It also explains the provision and siting of a suitable security-certificated information box and what specific information must be contained within the box.
Fire Safety Regulations 2022 online course assessment
The course assessment will consist of 15 questions generated from question banks. This means that the questions will be different each time you take the assessment.
Useful feedback for incorrect responses is provided. Also, revision flags are displayed on the menu for any topics where you got questions incorrect.
