Fire Safety Awareness (Schools and Colleges)

This Fire Safety Awareness training identifies fire safety concerns and outlines measures that apply in educational premises. The training explains how fires start and spread, what you can do to minimise the risk of a fire starting and what you should do if a fire breaks out.

Examples are given of the fire safety hazards commonly found in educational premises, and identifies good fire safety practices that will reduce the risk of fires being started deliberately as well as accidentally.

The training covers the essential knowledge requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006 and the Fire Safety Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2010. The content incorporates knowledge requirements and best practice provided by the UK Health and Safety Executive and the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland.

The training is presented step-by-step to make it easy to understand and retain knowledge.

Who is it for?

Fire safety awareness training is a legal requirement for all staff members and volunteers, whether full or part time, temporary or permanent. Fire Safety Awareness training must be given when they are first employed and periodically thereafter.

How does it benefit your school?

A designated member of staff can quickly and easily, add new staff members and assign training, see who has accessed and passed the course, print certificates and arrange refresher training. Staff records can be viewed real time on your i2Comply dashboard and can be exported to spreadsheets and .pdf documents. All records, including those of staff who have left are always available ensuring that, if there is a fire, an insurer can’t dispute a claim on the grounds that training has not taken place.

Where can the course be taken?

The online training course can be accessed at any time from a PC, laptop or tablet.

How long does it take?

Typically the Fire Safety Awareness course takes 60 minutes, including the final assessment. You can revisit any of the topics and retake the assessment as many times as necessary.

When do I get my certificate?

When you have successfully passed the course you will be able to download and print your certificate straight away.
