The online Disability Awareness course is divided into 6 topics covering disability awareness, UK legislation, workplace inclusion, respectful language and accessibility.
1 – Introduction to Disability Awareness

2 – Disability Statistics

3 – Disability and UK laws
This topic explains the Equality Act and what it means for people with disabilities and organisations. It also introduces other relevant legislation and policies, including the Human Rights Act, the UN Convention on Disability Rights and the Public Sector Equality Duty.
4 – Being an inclusive company
This topic explores why disability inclusion is important in the workplace. Learners will consider the disability employment gap, the benefits of creating an inclusive organisation and practical ways to make recruitment, interviewing and induction more inclusive.
5 – Language
This topic explores the importance of appropriate and respectful language when discussing disability. Learners will consider how language can be harmful, even when well-intentioned, and learn practical guidelines for communicating respectfully about different disabilities.
6 – Accessibility
This topic focuses on making products, services and communications more accessible. Learners will explore practical ways to improve accessibility, including how to make emails, presentations and documents easier for everyone to use.
How is the Disability Awareness course assessed?
When a learner has completed all of the topics in the training course, they can take the assessment. The assessment consists of 15 questions. There is a bank of questions for each topic in the course, so the questions change each time a learner takes the assessment.
There is no limit on the number of test attempts at the Disability Awareness assessment so it can be taken as many times as necessary. Also, the feedback shows which topics the learner should revise after the assessment.
Disability Awareness training certificate and renewal
You can download your Disability Awareness certificate as soon as you have passed the online assessment.
Your certificate will include the CPD logo. This means you can use it as evidence of compliance.
How long is the Disability Awareness certificate valid?
The course certificate doesn’t include an expiry date. Although your certificate won’t expire, we recommend refreshing your knowledge every 2 years. The suggested date of renewal/refresher training is on your certificate.
